Plates – The Big Push

Posted on May 2, 2017 · Posted in General

OK, folks, it’s time for a frank conversation about the Bike the Good Life license plates.  We have two choices: gut it out to the top of the hill before May 31 or turn around, coast back down and pull the plug.

As you know, we need to pre-sell 250 plates before they will be made and distributed and then available in perpetuity for others to choose as an option.  As of today, we’ve sold 75.  We have a long way to go.  Remember, the money from those 75 people is being held in a restricted account so that we can give full refunds if we can’t make the 250 goal.

We are at a crossroads: we don’t want to hang onto people’s money for an extended period of time if it is apparent that we won’t make it to 250.  On the other hand, we really, really want to see these things get made, so we’re reluctant to stop now.

If you’ve been thinking about getting a plate but haven’t fully committed to the idea, now is the time.
If you have a family member or friend that you can convince to get one, now is the time.
If you don’t want to have to pay the extra $70 per year every time you renew after this, we have a compromise: take one for the team and get them for just 1 year.  You’re not committed to them after that, and you’ll help us get over the hump!

We realize that people are disappointed that the plates can’t be personalized and that we don’t have any say in how the fees collected get spent.  But having these plates out on the roads will continue to build awareness of our organization and our cause, which in turn will make bicycling better for all of us.
